Drew Barrymore: Playhouse Mystery Date

Enjoying a night out on the west coast, Drew Barrymore was spotted at the Playhouse nightclub in Hollywood, CA on Thursday (September 8).

The ?Long Distance? diva looked cute and casual as she made her way out of the club while holding hands with a mystery male.

Rumor has it, Drew has been dating the son of Chanel?s CEO, Will Kopelman, but he was nowhere to be seen.

While a plethora of Barrymore?s fellow celebs were in attendance at the hopping Fashion?s Night Out soiree, Drew opted for a low key night with close friends.

Katy Perry Explains Why VMAs Are 'Funnest' Show

'You just want to watch a spectacle, you want to watch what goes down,' Video of the Year winner tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Rob Markman

As anyone watching the MTV VMAs over the years can attest — anything can happen. And Sunday evening's action-packed broadcast did not disappoint. There was Gaga in drag, Chris Brown flying on wires, Beyoncé making her baby announcement and general electricity in the air around L.A.'s Nokia Theatre.

"Anything can happen during the VMAs," Video of the Year winner Katy Perry told MTV News. "It's definitely just the funnest awards show of the whole gamut, of all the awards shows. The VMAs are like a f---ing monkey out of hell awards show," she laughed. "You just want to watch a spectacle, you want to watch what goes down and I think so many different sparks fly creatively."

Speaking of sparks flying, romantic moments are fast becoming a trademark of the big show, whether it's a couple meeting there for the first time and, as in Perry and Russell Brand's case, getting married, or teen royalty like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez sharing a kiss or two.

"People feel like they can be themselves," Perry explained of the VMA vibe. "So, if sparks fly creatively, I'm sure they're flying romantically as well."

It's not surprising that the "Teenage Dream" singer is a fan of the Video Music Awards, considering she not only got a husband out of the deal but also a couple Moonmen. Going into Sunday night, Perry was nominated in nine categories and picked up two trophies for Video of the Year and Best Collaboration.

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Stick with MTV News for winners, fashion pics, video and behind-the-scenes stories about everything that went down. Visit VMA.MTV.com for the latest.

Game Scores #1 Debut With R.E.D. Album

Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne drops to #2 on Billboard chart.

Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images

After more delays than a space shuttle launch, Compton rapper the Game will finally have his reward next week when his endlessly pushed-back fourth effort, The R.E.D. Album, debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. According to figures provided by SoundScan, the disc moved just under 98,000 copies, enough to grab the top spot but well below the first-week figures for his 2008 album LAX, which opened with 239,000 in sales.

Either way, it's just enough to beat out Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne, which drops to #2 in its third week, as sales dove 47 percent to 94,000 for a three-week total just north of 707,000. Among the new entries in the top 10 is a Barbra Streisand collection, What Matters Most — Barbra Streisand Sings the Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman (#4, 66,000), the debut from country supergroup Pistol Annies, Hell on Heels (#5, 44,000), which consists of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley, and Muppets: The Green Album (#8, 30,000), with modern interpretations of the lovable puppets' songs by OK Go, Weezer, My Morning Jacket, Amy Lee of Evanescence and the Fray.

The rest of the top 10: Adele's 21 (#3, 82,000), NOW 39 (#6, 44,000), Luke Bryan's Tailgates & Tanlines (#7, 35,000), Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party (#9, 29,000) and Eric Church's Chief (#10, 24,000).

Further down the line, Pavement singer Stephen Malkmus and his band the Jicks come in at #43 with Mirror Traffic (8,000), and 30 Seconds to Mars land at #76 with their new Unplugged set (6,000). Lil Wayne immediately jumped to the top of the iTunes album charts after Tha Carter IV dropped digitally following the VMAs on Sunday. He was followed by the Pistol Annies, Game, Adele, Jay and Kanye, Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' I'm With You, the Muppets album, Foster the People's Torches and Rihanna's resurgent Loud.

Maroon 5 continue to dominate the singles chart with "Moves Like Jagger," while Foster the People are right behind with "Pumped Up Kicks," Gym Class Heroes make a strong showing with "Stereo Hearts" (featuring Maroon's Adam Levine) and Rihanna has plenty to toast as "Cheers (Drink to That)" comes in at #4. Rounding out the tally: Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters," LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," Wayne's "She Will," Lady Gaga's "You and I," Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" and OneRepublic's Good Life."

Things will surely be shaken up next week when Wayne's Tha Carter IV crashes the charts with estimates that it could sell nearly 1 million copies. Also debuting are the Chili Peppers, as well as David Guetta, VMA pre-show performers Cobra Starship and Lenny Kravitz.

Twiggy Supports Wardrobe Clearout For Oxfam

Fashion icon Twiggy is calling on Marks & Spencer customers to support Oxfam by clearing out their wardrobes this week.?

On Thursday 8th September, 370 M&S stores up and down the UK will be hosting a special One Day Wardrobe Clearout event, accepting unwanted clothing and accessories that will be resold or recycled by Oxfam. The event will help Oxfam raise crucial funds and prevent clothing from going to landfill.

?The national campaign has the backing of the face of M&S Woman and international icon Twiggy, who is encouraging customers to get involved.

“We’re all guilty of hoarding clothes away that we no longer wear,” she said. “This is a great way to rediscover those hidden treasures at the back of your wardrobe and donate any unwanted or unused pieces to Oxfam.”

?The clearout event rewards customers donating clothes and accessories with a 5 money off voucher when they spend 35 on fashion in store, redeemable until 30th September. Thursday’s event is part of the year-round award winning M&S and Oxfam Clothes Exchange.

?For the first time generous customers will be able to see exactly how their much needed donations are helping, through a brand new interactive online tool, “You Give, Oxfam Gets” at www.marksandspencer.com/PlanA.

Customers are able to virtually dress a mannequin with clothes and accessories to see how much their donations could raise for Oxfam and how the vital funds could be used to make a difference. A customer donating:

  • A dress could raise 9 for Oxfam ? enough to help improve the prospects and living conditions of a young person in Nairobi by helping them to work in and run a recycling centre.
  • A clutch bag could raise 8 for Oxfam ? enough to help livelihoods in Bangladesh flourish by providing three fruit or tree saplings.?
  • A man’s suit could raise 20 for Oxfam ? enough to supply three families food for ten days during an emergency by providing basic food rations or cash vouchers to buy it.

Richard Gillies, Director of Plan A, CSR and Sustainable Business at M&S, said: “By clearing out your wardrobe and simply dropping off your unwanted clothes and accessories at our stores, you can help the environment and help Oxfam save lives. We’re asking our customers to donate 400,000 items of clothing: an easy way to make a difference and save money on this season’s latest collections with a great M&S money-off voucher.”

Lady Gaga Releases First 'Fashion Film' Version of 'You and I'

Video was directed by fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, with four more clips to come.
By Gil Kaufman

Lady Gaga
Photo: WireImage

Most artists make one big splashy video for their latest single and then move on to the next one. As she's proven over and over again, though — most recently at the VMAs, where she stayed in her Jo Calderone character all night long — Lady Gaga is not most people.

After announcing on Twitter on Thursday that she shot five "fashion films" set to "Yoü and I" with Dutch fashion photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, she unleashed the first clip later that day, "Haus of Ü Featuring Nymph."

In typical Gaga fashion, it is perplexing, mesmerizing and just a bit odd, and nothing like the way-more elaborate, official music video for the rocking ballad. The barely two-minute black-and-white clip has Gaga pulling off a series of balletic twists and turns while wearing a simple slip dress and ballet slippers, her blonde hair loose and waving in the wind or up in a bun. At various points, there appear to be moths or some other kind of insect flying around in the background and lying dead on the ground.

Wearing very little makeup, Gaga stares intently at the camera while dancing in front of a stark white background. At one point she pulls up the dress while writhing on the ground, almost exposing herself. Near the end there is a fleeting moment where she gazes into the camera while holding her hair on her head in what looks like a colorized photo, with blonde applied to her locks, along with blush on her cheeks and a splash of blue on the dress.

Gaga did not announce when the other videos would be posted.

Roger Moore Applauds Girl Who Changed Name For Foie Gras Protest

PETA's campaign against Fortnum & Mason for refusing to stop selling cruelly produced foie gras just got personal for a PETA staff member: Abi Izzard has now officially changed her name to StopFortnumAndMasonFoieGrasCruelty.com.

“Whenever anyone asks for or reads my name, it sparks a conversation about the cruelty of foie gras and Fortnum & Mason’s complicity in the abuse”, says StopFortnumAndMasonFoieGrasCruelty.com. “It’s appalling that Fortnum & Mason, which trades on its British heritage, refuses to stop profiting from a product so cruel that its production is banned in the UK.”

StopFortnumAndMasonFoieGrasCruelty.com’s positive action has already received praise from one high-profile admirer: “Many people know me as James Bond or 007, but I never went so far as officially changing my name from Roger Moore!” says Sir Roger Moore, a fervent supporter of the campaign against Fortnum & Mason and the sale of foie gras. “I hope the young lady now known as StopFortnumAndMasonFoieGrasCruelty.com royally shames this store”.

To produce foie gras, birds are force-fed by having pipes rammed down their throats several times per day and up to 2 kilograms of grain and fat pumped into their stomachs. This cruel practice causes the birds’ livers to become diseased and to swell to many times their normal size. The pipes can puncture the birds’ throats, causing many animals to bleed to death. The surviving birds live in a constant state of terror as they await the next assault. They stop preening because of extreme stress and become sick and lethargic. Despite the fact that PETA has provided Fortnum & Mason with a wealth of scientific and expert evidence to show how cruel foie gras production is, they continue to sell the inhumane product and insist that their birds are raised to the highest standards, whilst refusing to provide any evidence of this claim.? ?

A growing list of prominent figures – including Sir Roger Moore, Ricky Gervais, the Duchess of Hamilton, Twiggy, Jenny Seagrove, Carley Stenson, Peter Egan and Owain Yeoman – have appealed to Fortnum & Mason to follow the lead of Harvey Nichols and Selfridges and stop selling foie gras.

The Facebook page for the new campaign already has more “likes” than Fortnum & Mason’s own.

'American Idol' This Week: Adam Lambert's Audition And More

At this time over the past nine seasons, an 'Idol' dad went to Washington and William Hung made his debut.
By Katie Byrne

Adam Lambert auditions for "American Idol" on January 20, 2009
Photo: FOX

The second week of "American Idol" is about to kick off, so let's review what we've learned from season 10 so far: Steven Tyler has taught us the value of a sound bite, Jacee Badeaux and Brett Loewenstern taught us not to judge on first impressions alone, and Randy Jackson taught us ... well, let's not get carried away. We haven't learned that much yet.

But at this same time over the past nine seasons of "American Idol," we had already met Adam Lambert and saw one "Idol" alum's dad replace Ted Kennedy in the U.S. Senate. Let's take a look back at This Week in "American Idol" to see what went down during the second week of seasons past:

2010: Mr. Brown Goes to Washington
Back in season five, Ayla Brown made it to the top 16 with her booming voice, all-American look and prodigious poise. Apparently, all these qualities were better fit for a career in politics, where Ayla's dad, Scott Brown, has thrived, assuming Ted Kennedy's Senate seat in a special election this week last year. MTV News caught up with Ayla in January 2010 right after her dad's win to see why she thought "Idol" didn't work out for her back in 2007. "I didn't think people got the chance to see who I was and my personality," she told us. "It was hard to overcome that, but I gave it my all and I'm just disappointed America didn't vote for me." Well, it looks like America voted for the Brown family the second time around.

2009: Adam Lambert Wails His Way Into Our Hearts
When we were first introduced to Adam Lambert, he was fresh off a stint in the musical "Wicked" and got the "theatrical" brush-off from Simon Cowell (who eventually came around and voted him through to Hollywood after all). While that first meeting wasn't too far off from the over-the-top performer we came to know and love, what's really surprising is how MTV News "Idol" expert Jim Cantiello described Lambert in his live blog of the season-eight San Francisco auditions: "8:48 pm - 'Idol' math: David Cook + Clay Aiken = Adam Lambert." What?!? More like Lady Gaga + Robert Plant, or maybe even new judge Steven Tyler. But Jim turned out to be more than a little prescient in his next live-blog entry: "8:50 pm - Adam just came out of the closet. Welllll, he just said he saw Paula Abdul on tour when he was ten. So... "

2007: "American Idol" and the Sundance Kid
There's nothing "Idol" fans love more than a totally surprising (and totally thrilling) audition. One of the most memorable first impressions belongs to Jason "Sundance" Head, the then-28-year-old son of "Treat Her Right" singer Roy Head. Sundance wowed the judges with his bluesy take on "Stormy Monday" — especially after he walked in the room with an overgrown goatee and his shirt unbuttoned a bit too far. "Powerful voice; didn't expect it," Paula Abdul said when he finished, with hard-to-please Simon Cowell even chiming in, "I'm going to be amazed if you don't make the finals." That part didn't go so well: Sundance never recaptured his "Stormy Monday" glory, and he missed out on the season-six top 12 in favor of Sanjaya Malakar. Ouch.

2004: He Bangs, He Bangs
On the other side of the audition spectrum was William Hung. When it comes to bad auditions, no one is more memorable than the Berkeley engineering student who informed the judges that he had "no professional training." But Hung had the last laugh: His debut album, Inspiration, actually sold tens of thousands of copies, which isn't far off from Lee DeWyze's numbers.

"American Idol" is celebrating their decade-long legacy by paying tribute to some of their biggest contestants. The 10th-anniversary compilation, due March 15, is titled American Idol 10th Anniversary — The Hits: Vol. 01 and will feature tunes from all nine of the show's winners, as well as other notable contestants.

The 12-song set, which is ordered chronologically by the contestant's season, consists of the biggest hits from previous "Idol" winners, including Kelly Clarkson ("Since U Been Gone"), Carrie Underwood ("Before He Cheats"), Jordin Sparks featuring Chris Brown ("No Air") and more. Additional tracks from the show's other finalists, including Adam Lambert ("Whataya Want From Me") also round out the compilation.

As the newly revamped season of "American Idol" continues, the series compilation marks just another look back at the singing competition's journey. Back in December, Fox affiliates aired a special broadcast where all nine of the show's winners traveled back to their hometowns and reflected on their whirlwind journey to fame.

American Idol 10th Anniversary — The Hits: Vol. 1 track list, according to USA Today:

1. Kelly Clarkson - "Since U Been Gone"
2. Ruben Studdard - "Superstar"
3. Clay Aiken - "Invisible"
4. Fantasia - "When I See U"
5. Carrie Underwood - "Before He Cheats"
6. Taylor Hicks - "Takin' It to the Streets"
7. Daughtry - "Home"
8. Jordin Sparks (featuring Chris Brown) - "No Air"
9. David Cook - "Light On"
10. Kris Allen - "Live Like We're Dying"

Emma Stone And Olivia Wilde Honored For Supporting Cruelty-Free Cosmetics

When actors Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde chose to partner with Revlon, they were signing on to represent one of the country’s first mainstream cruelty-free cosmetics companies.

In 1990 ? more than 10 years before either Stone or Wilde landed their first acting roles ? Revlon agreed to PETA's request to permanently ban all product testing on animals. In the intervening decades, it has held fast to that pledge. And for choosing to promote only cruelty-free cosmetics, Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde have both earned a Kind Choices Award from PETA. They will each receive a framed certificate and a card signed by PETA staffers.

“Emma, Olivia, and Revlon have our thanks for encouraging millions of fashion-forward young women to choose makeup that’s luxurious, not lethal,” says PETA Vice President of Laboratory Investigations Kathy Guillermo. “Cruelty-free companies such as Revlon make it easy for all of us to get a glamorous look without harming a hair on a bunny’s head.”

Some companies, such as L’Oreal and Johnson & Johnson, still test their personal-care and household products on animals despite the availability of more sophisticated methods. No law requires that cosmetics be tested on animals in the U.S., and modern non-animal methods are available to assess product safety.

Visit PETA’s website for a full list of cruelty-free companies and products.

Nicki Minaj, Adam Lambert Take Early O Music Awards

Favorite Animated GIF prize goes to Nicki Minaj, while Lambert wins Favorite F--- Yeah Tumblr

You were warned that the inaugural O Music Awards would not be the usual tuxedos and big-up-to-the-man-upstairs schmooze fest. We proved it when the first award was handed out on Monday night following a spirit debate that resulted in Andy Grammer's choose-your-own-adventure video for "Keep Your Head Up" winning the Most Innovative Video award.

Though the official awards show doesn't take place until Thursday night in Las Vegas, more magical cubes were handed out on Monday and Tuesday, including the NSFW-named Favorite F--- Yeah Tumblr trophy.

In a tight race, the F--- Yeah Adam Lambert Tumblr won, beating out a bevy of big-name competitors, including Trey Songz, Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kid Cudi, Kayne West, Janelle Monae, Harajuku Barbie (a.k.a. Nicki Minaj), "Crazy Britney" and Beyoncé.

Though all the sites feature stellar candid and posed pictures of the stars, video clips and homebrewed collages, it was the Tumblr dedicated to glam-pop king Adam Lambert that took the crown. Packed with glamour shots and lots of quirky animated GIFs, the site offers nearly 300 pages of all things Adam, showing the fierce dedication of the Glam Nation.

The Favorite Animated GIF award was revealed by none other than MTV TJ Gabi Gregg. "I'm online 24-hours a day, pretty much, or it feels like that," said Gregg in a video announcing the prize. "I was super exited to see that this category even existed. I love GIFs. I retweet them, I reblog them, I Facebook them." And without further ado, she said the clear cube would go to ... Nicki Minaj "Gum Twirl."

The frantic GIF of a pop-eyed Nicki furiously spinning some pink gum around her finger won over some seriously fierce competition, including such nominees as the "50 Cent, Bert and Kermit" mash-up, the "50 Cent, Rebecca Black and Bert" mash-up called "Which Seat Can I Take," the infamous Justin Bieber "Tongue Roll," not to mention the Jeckyll-and-Hyde-like Kanye West clip "Kanye Smile, Then Angry" (taken from an MTV News interview), the highlights of the Katy Perry " 'California Gurls' Whipped Cream" scene, the seductive Lady Gaga "Finger Lickin' Good" clip as well as the fake Rihanna/Katy Perry "Catfight" and the hilarious Whitney Houston "Whitney Points" segment from the "Oprah Winfrey Show."

"I know the Barbs and Nicki are very happy, so congratulations to all of you who voted," Gabi said.

Stay tuned all this week for more award announcements.

The inaugural O Music Awards will stream live from Las Vegas at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on OMusicAwards.com. Tune in to see who will reign supreme in categories like Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and NSFW Music Video!

Why Did Lady Gaga Go To VMAs As Jo Calderone?

Creative director Laurieann Gibson takes MTV News behind Gaga's 'performance art.'

When Lady Gaga showed up at the 2011 Video Music Awards, she wasn't Lady Gaga anymore; she was Jo Calderone.

Gaga's creative director, Laurieann Gibson, spoke to MTV News days before the show went live, and she explained why Gaga wanted to stay in character all night long.

"The idea of her being a performance artist -- and it's starting the performance on the red carpet and the idea that the performance never ends for her -- is the first time I've experienced this with an artist," she said. "I love it. That's something that is specific to her, and the whole night was the performance, and it was important that Jo was a part of the whole night."

Gaga -- or, rather, Calderone -- opened the show with a lengthy monologue before launching into Gaga's "Yoü and I." Jo then hung out with Kanye West in the audience, paid tribute to Britney Spears and even shared a kiss with the pop star. Not once did Gaga break character. In Gibson's eyes, this type of performance is groundbreaking.

"I hope that the Monsters and the music industry [connect to] the idea that as long as you execute to the highest level of your ability, that you make a statement, that you push your creative ability to the max, and it doesn't mean one thing or another," she said.

"It could mean standing under one spotlight, it could mean tons of camels and belly-dancing girls. I don't know one is not necessarily better than the other," she continued. "But it is about who's the artist; it belongs to the artist, so in that one moment you have to take it and give all you can. And so I hope people take the fearlessness away [and] the creative notion that we constantly push boundaries, that we're not followers."

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Stick with MTV News for winners, fashion pics, video and behind-the-scenes stories about everything that went down. Visit VMA.MTV.com for the latest.
