Bee Gee Robin Gibb Busy With Charity Work

Written by Tim Saunders

Robin Gibb will join Robbie Williams in performing at a special charity event in London on May 12.

The pair will be part of Caudwell Children's annual Butterfly Ball to help provide specialist equipment, treatment and therapy for sick and disabled children living in the UK.

Robbie Williams was announced as an official ambassador for the charity last year. Caudwell Children was founded by entrepreneur-turned-philanthropist, John Caudwell. Since being founded in 2000 the Charity has donated over 11million and helped change the lives of thousands of children across the UK.

“I agreed to perform alongside Robbie Williams at a charity do in Britain May 12 and the following week I’ll start filming for an episode of a BBC TV programme I’ve been asked to do and which I’m really, really looking forward to,” said Robin Gibb in an email. “I’m still involved in charities and will speak at the Copyright Summit in Brussels this June, and continue to be an ambassador for Outward Bound and the Diana Award. The Heritage Foundation meanwhile have asked to hold their annual garden party at my Oxfordshire home and that event is pencilled in for July 17. I’m thrilled too, that today we will be breaking the ground in Green Park for the Bomber Command Memorial.”

The former Bee Gee recently sat down for an interview to launch his new website, and talked about how important charity work is to him: “I’m very proud of the charities I’ve been involved in, particularly my campaign for a permanent memorial for Bomber Command. This is one of the things outside music that I have a real passion for. I met a lot of great people through this campaign and I want to have the memorial erected next year so that those that survive will be around still to see it unveiled.”

The new website includes a section detailing the charities Robin supports.

The Butterfly Ball event takes place in Whitehall, London, on May 12. More information can be found here.
